The art of writing a captivating resume has become more prominent than ever before. To stand out from the hoards of other resumes for the same application you are applying for, you need to ensure yours is the best. Below are some helpful tips to implement and remember when constructing your resume:
Have a look at the advertised position and make any notes on keywords they mention in the description. Then, re-evaluate your own resume and try to add in those words where applicable. Please note though, the words cannot merely be added - it needs to be thoughtfully integrated to make sense when you read it back to yourself. Through applying this technique, you will portray you are the ideal candidate for the position based on matching characteristics.
Take a look at examples of resumes specific to the industry you are applying in. Make a note of the overall structure, wording and layout. Then adjust your resume to follow best practices of the industry. You can find attractive resume templates on: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ResumeTemplateByFran?ref=seller-platform-mcnav
Make use of an easy to read and simple font style. Your resume will be read very quickly initially, and you do not want the interviewer to lose interest when they cannot see the words clearly.
Place the most relevant and information pertaining to that post you are applying for at the top. This will ensure your resume looks enticing by showcasing what the company needs at the top of your resume!
Do not add words that you yourself do not understand or cannot pronounce. There might be a chance that if you use a highly extravagant word, the interviewer will ask you to pronounce it when you are called for the interview! Rather stick to the language level you are proficient in, but also keeping in mind not making it too basic.
If you have previous work experience where numbers were involved, then add the statistics. Statistics stand out on a document full of words, and can make your resume look more credible. For example, if there was a sale that you made which increased your department's overall revenue by 10%, then add it. Or if you developed a new plan, strategy, or product that made your team more effective and there is a statistic to showcase this, then add it. You need to show the interviewer that you will be an asset to the company if they hire you for that position.
Proof read your own resume for any spelling or grammar errors- take a break when you have completed your resume, and then relook at it with a fresh eye. You can even go one step further by asking a friend or family member to proof read it for you. Then, read it out loud to see if it makes sense and it if it easily understandable, and not boring. If you need to add in more descriptive words, then do so.
